AI already scares the crap out of me.
And then I listened to a podcast yesterday, much of which I’m still wrestling with (see below for details). It brutally emphasizes a fact that I need to act on immediately.
AI is a machine that can learn in a second what is the equivalent to me living to 1,000.
I can’t compete with that. No way. Not a chance.
And it's moving so fast I can’t even jump out of the way.
I’m automatic roadkill if I don’t do something.
The only option is to grab on.
Like the sandworm in Dune - get on board or get eaten.
I'm grabbing on with both hands.
FYI: the podcast I listened to is: The Most Interesting Thing in AI with Nicholas Thompson (CEO of The Atlantic) episode 1. It's an interview with Geoffrey Hinton - the “godfather of AI” and a professor emeritus at my alma mater - the University of Toronto.
