Meet Jason Zan - Chief Metrics Officer (CMetO)

Earlier this week I caught up with my friend Jason Zan — ex-CFO, now calling himself a Chief *Metrics* Officer (CMetO).

He’s a super smart guy, thoughtful, and a blast to work with.

And we both share a strong, core belief: the CFO shouldn’t stop at the financials.

CFOs should own all the metrics that matter—financial and beyond. Growth, funnel, retention, efficiency, engagement - whatever drives long-term value.

Take a typical, early stage and/or high growth SaaS company. On paper, it might look like they're just burning cash. But dig into LTV/CAC and other operational metrics, and you might find they're making smart, strategic bets for the future.

GAAP alone won’t show you that. It can't.

A CFO who limits themselves to financial statements is missing half (more?) of the picture.

Maybe that’s where the CMetO steps in—or when we redefine the CFO role entirely.

Thanks Jason for the catch up, and the inspiration—I might need to update my own title soon!

And as always, check out what we're doing at Una to give CFOs and CMetOs all the metrics they need to shape their companies’ futures.
